''Great Songs , Great Guitars'' features guitarist Ed Stevens . Born on the 10th of August 1954 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Ed started playing guitar at the age of twelve and played his first show at “Terre des Hommes” in the summer of 1969 . Athough Ed plays left-handed, he has always played on a guitar strung right-handed (the strings upside-down) . This unusual method contributes to his distinctive musical style and sound.
Ed began playing professionally in 1974 . Over the course of the next 15 years he recorded with punk innovator Stanley Frank (Polydor Records), recorded and toured Canada with Cruiser and their hit record “Rollin' with the Times” (Network Records) as well as Leyden Zar (CBS), Louise Portal and Walter Rossi . His writing credits include songs on albums by April Wine, Cruiser and Leyden Zar.
In the1990’s Ed Stevens composed music for a weekly children’s show, Emu-Tv (YTV), as well as the full-length motion picture “Hammerdown“, both produced by James Shavick . Ed has been a musical contributor on “My Hometown” (YTV) and has composed, performed and produced music for several PBS documentaries including “Harry Rosen: Renaissance Man”.
Having recently performed at the Bell Centre in Montreal with Quebec singer/song-writer Denis Ducharme, Ed continues to appear all across Quebec and Canada with various artists bringing a unique style to every project.
